Resource Conservation Challenge Scrap Tire
Workgroup Overview

The Scrap Tire Workgroup contributes to the overall goals of the Resource Conservation Challenge (RCC), a multi-faceted initiative implemented by USEPA with three overarching goals:

    1.      to prevent pollution and promote recycling and reuse of materials;
    2.      to reduce the use of toxic chemicals; and
    3.      to conserve energy and materials.

The RCC Scrap Tire Workgroup has engaged in on a series of projects that assist the overall scrap tire market.  These projects include a DVD on tire-derived aggregate; a statement on tire-derived fuel; a survey of the use of rubber modified asphalt and assisting in data collection on scrap tire generation and markets.  These projects provide valuable tools and information for scrap tire stakeholders.

The Five Subcommittees:

I.   Goals
II.  Ground Rubber
III. Civil Engineering
IV.  Rubberized Asphalt
V.   Tire Derived Fuel

 The five committees of the Scrap Tire Workgroup meet annually to plan its
 agenda for the following year.  The meeting is open to all members of the
 workgroup and its stakeholders are encouraged to attend.  A discussion of
 its projects activities and new directions will be developed to address the
 impact of proposed legislation on the Definition of Solid Waste and the
 Boilers MAC standards and the development of new market stratagem's and
 trends.
